Pastor Terry started this series by reading this passage from scripture...
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
...isn't 'thou shall not steal,'
...isn't 'thou shall not commit adultery,'
...nor is it 'thou shall not kill,'
The greatest commandment is to love God.
And the second is to love others.
You might be thinking, "whew, there are a lot of people in this world I just cannot stand; good thing loving others is second on the list and not first!"
Well, hold on a second here.
1 John 4:20-21 says that:
While many of you reading this may have differing religious beliefs, hopefully we can all agree on one thing: this world needs more love in it.
Yes, more love for God, AND absolutely more love for others.
Even those people whom you dislike, or even those who cannot "do" anything for you.
You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.
Or the kid in class answering all the questions asked by the teacher.
Or the patient who walks into your clinic complaining everything hurts (not to mention you're treating them for foot/ankle pain and they haven't clipped their toenails in years).
Or the friend who you found out was talking behind your back.
Or the person on Facebook who has differing political or religious beliefs. Not to mention differing ethnicity.
Or the ex-boy/girlfriend who broke your heart.
Or the opposing coach who your team can never seem to beat.
Or the president of the United States of America; the one you didn't vote for...
...yeah. Love 'em all.
Pastor Terry ended today encouraging us to think about it like this:
We should all be living our lives like a shoelace...
No, not that shoelace (the dude never did tie his shoes though!).
Cheers to being the change we wish to see in this world,
